Since we were in Billings, we decided to make use of our
membership and visit the zoo. We were hoping to see the new sloth that joined the zoo family,
but the pandemic delayed items for his habitat so he wasn’t on display. Sean
was very happy because the building was open, and we got to see the reptiles
and gift shop. Mikayla's friend Sophie had a sleepover, they enjoyed making slime and playing in muck, and she also joined us for the trip.
The kids and I took a day to go to the Museum of the Rockies.
They had a reptile exhibit that came right before the pandemic hit and Sean
wanted to go so bad. The exhibit was about to end so I had to make sure that my
reptile loving kiddo got the experience. There were some cool reptiles on
display. I could have done without the snakes but since they were behind glass,
I guess they were cool too.
We took on another small house project. We pulled out the
carpet in my office and our bedroom. We still had a lot of flooring from the we
salvaged from one of Ethan’s projects and the carpets were looking so bad that
I figured it was time to change it out. As always Mikayla was a big helper,
Sean helped a little too.
Two years ago we gifted Sean a trip to Yellowstone National
Park for Christmas, we didn’t get to go last year, and I made reservations for
us to go over Mother’s Day weekend but the pandemic caused them to be
cancelled. When things finally opened back up, I made reservations to stay at Lake
Lodge cabins. We started our journey by stopping at Mikayla’s orthodontist to
get her spacer for her teeth. I was worried that it would cause a lot of pain
and not make the trip very enjoyable for her, but she did great. We then started
out at Mammoth Hot Springs, drove down to Petrified tree and due to road
construction had to come back up to Mammoth then headed down to Yellowstone Lake. We didn't see as many animals as we hoped, my goal is to always see a moose, but we did see a sleeping baby black bear.
We thought it would be a quite weekend in the park since it was the end of the
season but it turns out the pandemic still had everyone wanting to enjoy nature,
and it was one of the busiest Septembers the park ever had. We made a game of trying to see how many of the 50
state license plates we could see over the course of the trip, we made it to 46,
we even found Hawaii! After we returned we also found out that my cousin and 2 other people we grew up with from Rosebud were there that weekend too!
Since Sean is in 4th grade, he gets to start
learning the recorder. I loved music in school, but the recorded is something I’ve
dreaded my kids bringing home to practice. Sean, however, has a talent for
music and has picked it up quickly. He doesn’t want to be excited about music
but I’m trying to work on him.
Fall seemed to come early this year but stayed around for a
while. I think that because it was so dry this year the trees started to give
up earlier than normal. The smoke from fires made the sunsets amazing but was
not enjoyable day in and day out. More time at Headwaters this time walking two
dogs, well trying to walk one while carrying the other, her little puppy legs
had a hard time keeping up with Copper’s.
