Over Columbus Day weekend I had to go to Arlington for work. Ethan was willing to watch the kids for 3 days so I got to go a day early to have time to explore DC.
Early flight but beautiful sunrise.
I landed about 2:00pm and decided to roam around Arlington Cemetery. I never imagined that it was as large as it was.
JFK Memorial
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I was able to see the changing of the guard.
I joined some colleagues for a ghost tour that evening. The guide that did our tour was an amazing story teller and the tour was a lot of fun. I would recommend the Tours by Foot if you are ever in the area.
One of the haunted houses. Old Stone House.
This house had a lot of history. Georgetown University even owned it as student housing but then sold it after student refused to live it in. It now is a wealthy family's 11million dollar party house.
The tour ended at the stairs from the movie the Exorsist. These were very steep, very scary stairs but we accepted the challenge and existed this way after the tour.
The Natural Science Museum. I really missed Sean as I walked through this museum and I really hope I get to take him there someday.
I had the chance to see the Wankel T-Rex that left Bozeman last spring. They don't have it on official display yet but they have it set up so you can watch them unpack the crates and study the bones. They official exhibit won't be done until 2019.
The Hope Diamond. Not a very good picture.
Sean would have loved seeing the hall of bones. It was very impressive.
The National Art Museum.
I finally had a chance to see all the artists I learned about in high school art. It was surreal.
For some reason this was my favorite piece. The details and craftsmanship was amazing. The it just loved the moment it captured.
Antique furniture, right up my alley.
National Air and Space Museum
Mars Rover.
Wright Brothers Plane.
Hubble Telescope.
I got to touch a piece of the moon!
The house where Licoln died. We didn't get to go into Ford's Theatre because they were having a matinee but the house was a very cool museum/tour. Especially after some of the history we learned the previous night on our ghost tour.
We had a pumpkin carving contest at the happy hour social. We went for traditional...we did not win.
